Luau week 1 and week 2

The last two weeks in the Bumblebee's room we have been learning about Luau's. We have talked about:

-The food you eat at a luau
-The clothing you wear at a luau

We made fingerprint cherries using red paint, and the tips of our fingers.

We made paperplate bananas, the kids painted them yellow.

Our favorite!!! A pinecone pineapple- the kids love doing this! (Note to self: pinecones have little bugs that live inside of them, the kids didn't like that too much.)

Paper plate coconuts.

The  Bumblebees class took time to make REAL cocounut smoothies. What an adventure opening a cocomut was. However, after a few searches I figured it out. There is one soft spot in a coconut you can pierce with a knife. You pierce it, drain the water out, and bake the coconuts at 450 degrees for about 10-15 minutes (or until they crack). Once they crack you can give them a little toss on the ground and they will break open. We blended up pineapples, bananas, cherries and coconut water (+ice) and the kids really enjoyed them! Again, sorry for the blocked out faces- we can't expose the kids identity.

Adding the bananas.....

After we talked about bananas we made a fun snack with them. We cut bananas in half, put them on a popsicle stick, rolled them in yogart, then in cereal. The kids did enjoy a little banana lollipop.

We also "dissected" a banana. The children really enjoyed putting on safety googles, and using magnifying glasses, and of course squishing bananas between their fingers!

Last but  not least, we talked about the attire you would wear at a luau. We spent the whole week making pieces of clothing, and on Friday we traced our bodies and "dressed" ourselves up. We added a big picture of the children's face to their traced bodies. We made flower headdresses, grass skirts, flip flops and leis. We really love the way they came out.

Welcome to our classroom!

Welcome to the Bumblebee's Room. Take a look around our classroom....

This is where our children "sign-in" to the classroom. Sorry for the blurred out faces, we can't post pictures of the children on the web. The right side represents "home" and the left side represents "school". They move a picture of themselves from one side to the next

We enjoy displaying our children with their parents, so here we have a big heart expressing our love. We take pictures of our parents and the kids design a frame to display their family picture.
Here is where we display a calender. We add birthdays, holidays and the weather to the calender. We also have a circle time seating chart so the children know where they sit on the carpet area during story time.

This is how we know how many children are in the classroom. The bumblebee theme is flowing throughout the room.

Here is where we label our theme, subject, letter and color.

This is our job wall. We add a picture of the child to each job so they know what they are doing for the week.

This is our white board where we write down what we did so parent's can see what their child has done daily.

This is some of our pet's in the classroom- we have a fish and a hermit crab (Gordon and Lucy).

This is our other pet, Coco. He's a guinea pig.

This is our birthday wall, it was really hard to take a picture of but all the kids are "hanging" from balloons.

We label our kids chairs at the table according to theme. We change it every month.

We also label their picture on the floor (used to line up to go outside) according to theme and we change it monthly.

We also label the cubbies according to theme, along with a picture of the child.
This is how we seperate our primary care groups, bumblebees of course!

This is our music area!

This is our block area.

This is our science center.
This is our art area.
This is our dramatic play area.

This is our quiet area, and circle time area.

This is our manipulitives center.

Well, this concludes our tour. Stay tuned!!

Preschool 101

                     WELCOME TO THE BUMBLEBEE'S CLASSROOM

Welcome to our Blog. My name is Brittany and my co-teacher's name is Maria. We decided to create a blog to post all about the "happenings" of the Bumblebee's room. We spend so much time and energy in our preschool classroom- we have decided we want to air our classroom and display our creativity. We dedicate our time to our children in the classroom, and literally transform the classroom to represent our theme.

Each month we choose a theme.
Each week we choose a subject.

For example: For the month of June we're talking about Luau's/Hawaii.

Week one: Food you would eat at a luau
Week two: Attire you would wear at a luau
Week three: Landscape you would see in Hawaii.
Week four: Activities you would do at a luau.

Each week we incorporate a color and a letter to our lessons.

We will post pictures, activities, ideas and inspiration on this blog. Please feel free to contact us, post your ideas and comment on this blog.

The next post will be a little tour of our room, and our lesson of the week.
